Drafting and planning

I have drafted my contents page in terms of layout and images, my aim is to somehow replicate a mixmag idea of a contents page:

I have included the magazines masthead to keep the magazine clear and consistent similar to mixmag. I have wrote 'contents' to ensure the reader that this is where they will know where to find certain stories. I have included the main image of the artist my main story and double page spread is on and secondary images which is similar to the mixmag sort of approach. This keeps the magazine looking busy and full to the rim. The numbers over the pictures tell the reader which pages they will find these artists on.

To add a realistic edge to my magazine I will now have to add in the stories included in my magazine and think of edgy stories and titles to give them on my contents page.

Organisation/ Target audience

I have taken various photographs of other people and not just my main artist for my music magazine. They vary from singular female artists to a male boy band. I will need to feature these on my contents page and include their names. My main artist will be called SIAN as its short, simple and seems quite colloquial linking to artists such as Annie Mac. I have came up with the name JE55ICA for my first secondary female artist. For the boy band I have decided to christen them Electr0Juni0rs.

I am very pleased with the names I have thought of for my secondary artists because like usual dance music artists they are short yet quirky and sound quite extraordinary. This will appeal to my target audience because typical dance music artists have names like Example, Tiesto, Breach and Alesso etc. I am very excited about featuring these new names on the contents and even front page of my magazine.

I will not only use new, fresh, non-existent artists but I will include well known artists on the front page as cover stories to give my mahazine a sense of professionalism, as suggested in my post from 30/12/14, I will feature artists like David Guetta on my front page to keep a consistency of successful dance music artists and to make my magazine appear realistic.

Drafting and planning

I have decided to draft out the layout of my magazine front page including the masthead and the image:

I have decided to include three cover stories excluding the anchorage text from the cover star;
I will include an interview with a dance music artist, gossip from more than one dance music artist and also address a new and upcoming artist e.g. Tiesto...

This has a specific link to magazines such as NME...
More than one artist is recognised on the magazine.

I like the idea of the highlighting of the words of the main stories - it gives the magazine a sense of busyness, this will work well on a dance music magazine because it will reflect the style of music.
^ I will definitely use this on the front page of my music magazine e.g.

Drafting and planning

This is the shot I am going to use on the contents page of my music magazine 'move'.
The artist contrasts with the background and looks very prominent in the image. This represents that the artists is shouting for attention through the use of direct mode of address yet the secretive body language suggests that there will be more to be unveiled if the target audience goes on to read the main article.
I will also use secondary images for example:

If I include these images on my contents page it will give my magazine a sense of busyness which is reflected further in the dance music genre.
Mixmag magazine includes more than one image on the contents page:
It is my target to replicate or somewhat mirror this sort of contents page from mixmag. I think that the main largest image is similar to one I have taken which I am going to use on my double page spread...

Drafting and planning

This is the shot I am going to use on the front page of my music magazine 'move'.
This is very effective because of the direct mode of address from my model. Making eye contact with the target audience will engage them and they will be interested in the magazine.
The appearance of my model is very important as linking back to my blog post on the 25th of November, my model to some extent replicates the appearance of Annie Mac as shown here:
I am very happy with my choice of image for the front page because of the clothing my model is wearing, the plain use of jumper gives her that self-made hardworking DJ characteristic which is mirrored by Annie Mac.
The lime green wall positively makes my artists appear vivid, new and fresh and this will also have a great impact on the colour scheme for my magazine. It has a connection to mixmag as the background for mixmag magazines is predominantly bright colouring for example:
This will be very eye-catching to my target audience. I will successfully use this image for my front page as it sticks to the typical conventions of a mixmag magazine because my artist is very edgy and the background is rich in colour.

Drafting and planning/ Target audience

On Thursday I once again took various different types of images for a wider range to add into my music magazine (I also did this for better quality images made easier for manipulation). I took them not only of female models but of male models too to add into my contents page.
Here are the photographs I took:

This is the model I am using as my main artist. The above pictures will feature on my front page and double page spread.

The artists above will all feature on my contents page and one may be a secondary image for my double page spread.

All of these pictures present unique identities. All dance music artists are different and that is the aim I am going for in my music magazine for example - mixmag (my inspiration) features artists like Tyga and Annie Mac in the same magazine who are total opposites. I used this idea when I took my photographs for my music magazine so that they will appeal to my target audience.

Target Audience

I must remember that my music  magazine is aimed at 16-21 year olds and this means that I will have to keep it quite informal because young people tend to speak in slang or better known as 'text talk'.
Instead of phrases like
"So how are you feeling about the recent release of your new album step-up?"
I could potentially say
"How did you feel the moment step-up came out?"

Young people may be able to relate to these simplistic phrases because the longer the sentence, the easier they may give up - now I am not trying to say that all young people are stupid and illiterate, but the target audience of my 'move' magazine will tend to be the more rebellious sector of young people that are more inclined to go to clubs regularly and enjoy dance music more. This means that I'll have to keep the content of my magazine quite facile to make sure they enjoy their experience reading it.
